Call for Art Submissions: University Orthopedics – Middletown, Rhode Island
Submission Period: March 6, 2025 – March 6, 2026 (open 1 year renewable contract)
Initially - University Orthopedics would like to have 20-30 pieces of art selected, installed and exhibited PRIOR to their OPEN HOUSE in early April (date TBD).
Exhibition Opportunity: University Orthopedics, in partnership with the Newport Artists Collective (NAC), invites artists to submit artwork for display in their new 10,000 sq. ft. rehabilitation and treatment facility located at 34 Valley Rd., Middletown, RI 02840. Selected artworks will enhance spaces such as the reception area, corridors, conference rooms, break rooms, and other common areas. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your art to patients, staff, and visitors.
Exhibition Details:
- Display Duration: Each selected piece will be exhibited for a minimum of 6 months or until sold.
- Artwork Replacement: Upon sale, University Orthopedics will select new art to replace the sold pieces.
- Audience:
The exhibition is accessible during regular business hours to patients, doctors, staff, and business associates of the medical practice.
Themes: Artists are encouraged to submit works aligning with the following themes:
- Nature Scenes: Tranquil landscapes featuring mountains, forests, or oceans with soft, natural colors.
- Human Movement & Anatomy: Artistic representations of muscles, bones, joints, or abstract depictions of activities like running and sports.
- Motivational & Uplifting: Positive quotes about strength and healing, or images showcasing individuals overcoming physical challenges.
- Local Artwork: Pieces reflecting the local community or created by local artists.
- Soft Abstracts: Simple, soothing designs in neutral tones with flowing patterns suggesting movement and flexibility.
Submission Guidelines:
- Eligibility:
Artists aged 16 and older.
- Mediums Accepted: Painting, photography, mixed media, drawing, printmaking, and pastel.
- Artwork Specifications:
- Dimensions: Minimum 12" x 12" up to 60" x 40". Larger works will be considered; please specify dimensions upon submission.
- Presentation: 2D works must be framed, gallery-wrapped, or have finished edges, ready to hang with proper wiring. No saw-tooth hangers, tape, or push pins.
- Framed works on paper should be under glass or acrylic glazing.
- Originality: All work must be original; reproductions or painted giclee prints are not allowed.
- Submission Process: Submit 3-5 JPEG images representative of the work you wish to exhibit through ArtCall.org. Ensure images are in JPEG format with a 142 DPI resolution.
- Entry Fees:
- NAC Members: No fee
- Non-members: $35
- Students: $20
- Note: Fees are non-refundable.
Sales and Commissions:
- All artworks must be for sale.
- Sales will be processed through ART NEWPORT.
- Artists receive 90% of the selling price; ART NEWPORT retains a 10% commission.
- University Orthopedics does not charge a fee or collect a commission on sales.
Insurance and Liability:
- While reasonable care will be taken, Newport Artists Collective, ART NEWPORT, and associated organizations are not responsible for loss or damage to artwork.
- University Orthopedics will take reasonable precautions to protect the artwork, including a facility-wide alarm system activated after business hours.
- By submitting, artists agree to the terms and conditions outlined in this call for entries.
Delivery of Artwork:
- Artists are responsible for delivering selected artworks to the Newport Artists Collective at a designated location.

Selection Process:
- University Orthopedics will review and select artworks for display.
- Selections will be made on an ongoing basis, from the initial installation to the replacement of sold pieces, at the discretion of University Orthopedics.
- Individual jurors will not be named.
Artwork Identification:
- Each displayed piece will feature a label with a QR code, the artist's name, artwork details, and price.
- A master handout listing all displayed pieces and their prices will be available in the reception area.
- A gallery of the exhibited artworks will be accessible on the ArtCall website for viewing and purchasing.
